“Mom, you set it up in the first place. I was happy just being with you,” I replied, worried that I had upset her somehow with Tina.
She stood and put her hands on my arms. “No, no. It’s ok. I’m really happy. It’s all a mother could want for her son to find a nice girl with whom he can build a relationship. I’d never stand in the way of that.” She leaned in and gave me a loving kiss on the lips.
“I hadn’t realized Tina was your Tina when she first came in. But seeing her picture on your phone made me finally connect the dots. I just knew I had to push you two together. And she is such a sweet and eager girl. She’s been doing great here and her other job seems like its not working out. I hope that’s OK,” mom said, suddenly seeming nervous that she overstepped.
I felt relieved. Despite what I had said about just being happy with mom, I did have to admit that I really liked Tina. “Thanks, mom. You really are the best.”
She smiled. “Well, let’s hope she is open with the idea of sharing you,” she said as she wrapped her arm into mine and put her head on my shoulder. “Otherwise, we’d have to keep this thing a bit of a secret.”
