Daddy Issues Memoirs – Chap 3: Trailer Trash by Daddy_Issues_Memoirs

While lately my preferences had shifted to older men, I developed an interest in one of my peers when my best friend’s cousin moved to our school. Immediately it became obvious to me that his family situation was disturbed. But I had no clue to what extent until his uncle arrived home. , Disgusted I looked at the green goo on my plate.

“Next!” said the lunch lady.

“Excuse me, that’s not what I wanted.”

Viciously she raised her eyes at me. “You think I wanted a job where I had to serve ungrateful brats like yourself? Let me tell you that the answer to that is NO! Welcome to life, where we don’t always get what we want – NEXT!”

Her whole being was so stereotypical that it almost seemed as if she had walked straight out of every high school movie I had ever seen. From the muddy posture to the snappish attitude.

“Jeese, what is her problem?” Siara said.

“Probably the dust between her legs. I can’t imagine any man would wanna go there.”

We took our filled trays to an empty table and sat down in the center of the cafeteria.

“Speaking of men, are you still meeting up with Mr. Shoemaker?” she asked.

“Yes. But not as much as last year. Since he’s no longer my teacher he’s more cautious about being seen with me. He’s afraid sooner or later someone will get onto us.”

“Do you ever meet him outside school?”

“Nope. But outside school I’m seeing Ronald again.”

“Since when?”

“A few weeks ago he came to my house. He’d seen that my mom’s car wasn’t in the driveway while the lights in the house were on. Apparently he had some stuff going on in his life and that is why he’s been so distant all this time.”

“Stuff like what?”

“I dunno. He doesn’t say that much to me, he just screws me and then he leaves. And quite frankly, I’m okay with that.”

Siara’s gaze wandered away from the table as if she was looking out for something in the distance.

“What’s the matter?” I asked.

“My cousin Gauge transferred to our school this year. Well actually he’s a distant cousin, from the side my mom likes to forget about. I told him to meet up with us here. He’s a really cool guy.”

“You mean from the trashy side of the family?” I asked grinning.

She laughed. “His family situation sure is… somewhat disturbed. His mom is doing crack and her pimp-ass boyfriend wants Gauge out of their trailer. So now he moved in with his uncle. Oh look, there he is!”

She stood up and waved at a brown-haired guy in a denim jacket who had just entered the cafeteria. He walked over to us in a careless manner, as if he had been in this school for years. Nothing in his appearance would have given him away as the new kid.

As soon as he sat down at our table, Siara introduced us to each other. Once I saw him up-close it turned out that he was rather handsome with piercing blue eyes. But his short scruffy beard gave away that he was not an average pretty boy. He pushed back one of the waving locks of his half long hair before he reached out his hand – which was covered by a fingerless leather glove with a mesh back. I couldn’t help to think that he was trouble, but at the same time he seemed kindhearted, and I felt instantly drawn to him when I looked into his gentle face.

“So, what do you think of this school so far?” I asked him.

“Same old same old,” he said, while he scratched the inside of one of his pierced ears. ‘‘Except they ain’t got metal detectors.’’

Siara provided us with some chitchat and as a group we easily got to talking about everyday life. I could already picture him hanging out with us at school. Then suddenly he nodded his head towards Siara and me. “You two an item?”

She frowned. “What, me and him? He prefers men, specifically older ones. He’s on his way of becoming a real daddy chaser.”

“Si, shut up!” I lashed out. I liked her open-minded spirit, but she really had to learn that some things we’re simply not allowed to say in public.

Gauge grinned. “Well than I should introduce him to my uncle.” He didn’t seem shocked at all.

But either way Siara seemed to have gotten the message and swiftly changed the topic. “How are things with… what’s her face?”

“Tracy? Meh, I was gettin’ bored, so I went in a different direction. You guys have any cigarettes?”

She calmly shook her head. “We don’t smoke. At least, not regularly. Only the good stuff.”

“Bummer. Then I guess I gotta take off now to fetch one before break ends.”

“Or you could follow our good example,” she said teasingly.

Gauge stood up to leave the table. “You guys feel like hangin’ out after school? Get blazed at my house or somethin’?”

“I would but unfortunately I can’t,” she said. “My mom’s organizing this fancy sit down diner for some people from my dad’s firm. They told me and my brother to be home early so they can show off our model family.’’

With twinkling in his eyes he grinned. “Playin’ the good girl huh. What’s in it for you?’’

She batted her lashes. ‘‘A new set of wheels.’’

He shook his head in amusement and turned towards me. “So how ’bout you?”

I felt a bit overwhelmed. I really liked him, but I had just met the guy. What if we didn’t have the same chemistry when it was just the two of us.

“Sure, why not.”

“Aight, I’ll wait for you by the steps in front of the school. I’ll give you a ride on my bike.”

“You have a carrier?”

Siara laughed. “He means his motorcycle.”

Before he left, he kissed her cheek, and he gave me a gentle smile. “Catch ya later,” he said.

***

Gauge turned off the motor. “Here we are.”

I had been a little uncomfortable at first when I had to step on the back of his bike, but he had assured me that he knew how to drive.

“Just hold on to me tightly and everythin’ will be fine.”

I had been more than fine. The adrenaline had raged through my body as the wind had blown in my face, dragging away all my inner demons of the past. Life was worth living for and I was ready to embrace whatever there was coming. Both the light and the darkness. And feeling the intimacy of Gauge’s body pressed against mine had awakened new curiosities in me.

His uncle’s home was located in a shabby neighborhood on the wrong side of the tracks. But knowing Gauge grew up in a trailer park, from his perspective it probably seemed like a decent living.

He showed me to his room and rolled a joint for us as promised. Apparently his uncle was out and there was nobody else in the house. At first we talked about general stuff, but as the afternoon passed on our conversations became more personal. He told me about how bad things had been between him and his mom and that he didn’t even know who his father was.

“John’s the closest thing to a dad I’ve ever had,” he said. “It ain’t the first time he’s picked me up outta the gutter. I told him I’d rent my own place as soon as I found a job somewhere, but instead he convinced me to finish school. He gave me my own room and everythin’, as you can see.”

“Aren’t you a little young to rent something for yourself anyway?”

“How old do ya think I am?”

“My age I presume.”

“Which is…?”

“My birthday is coming up soon, but for now I’m still sixteen.”
