Someone told Chris that Tom was playing around just before the divorce case was coming to court. She now had mixed feeling for him. But time had to tell about that.

Chris got a lawyer, At last we were in court in weeks the outcome would come this day. Her lawyer gave a good account of himself. Saying I was the blame for the divorce she wanted half of all my money and half the sale of the house.

My lawyer went to work. Outcome the photos of Chris and her lover his name was out of the bag Tom Clark. The Judge looked at them looking backward and forwards at Chris. Then at me over the top of his glasses.

He said to my lawyer, “is there any other evidence.”

“Yes, your honour two recordings.”

The Judge asked for the recording to be stopped he had seen enough.

“Is, there any other evidence? the Judge said.

“Yes, your honour I want to play a recording of a tape. Experts have confirmed it has not been tempered with. Here is the report to that effect.”

“Bring it up here and play it,” the Judge said.

“Your honour could allow my client to say a few things before we all hear want is on the tape,” my lawyer asked the Judge.

“Let your client speak then,” the Judge said.

“Your honour this is an account of the events before what is on the tape and what happen afterwards.”

I was at the hospital and things looked bad for my parents. I sat with them for an hour or so. And I was told to go home. My mind was spinning. So, I went back home, I had some work to do until dinner would be ready, I was worried about my parents.

I sat down looking at my notes. Then I was going use the voice activated recorder for my letters. I spoke to the recorder. It is the type that is fitted a device when the tape is full it ejected the tape. ‘Funny I thought to myself it was a new tape no way it is full.’

I looked for spare tape, but my other two were at work. So, I rewound the tape to the beginning. This is what I sat and started to listen too.

“Your honour you will hear everything that was said that night,” I said.

The play button was pressed and there was dead silence in the court.

“David, you got no more than two hours before he is back getting a move on.”

“Your honour I stopped the tape and locked the door. Then I restarted the tape,” I said.

We all heard the drawers opening and closing.

“Found them at last,” David calls out. “Got the details of his back account and his pin number and his passwords for his PC at last. Going to use the photo printer, I want a copy. God, do you know how much is parents are worth. Our family are going to be rich.”

Chris had walked into the room “My God. We can look after mum and dad at last they won’t have to worry about money every again,” Chris said it in a loud and clear voice.

“I heard the photo printer switched on, and they printed of each of use to them,” I told the Judge.

“David when are we going to set him up with a prostitute. So, I can get a divorce from the WIMP we need a recording and pictures to make sure with his face in full view? Chris said to her brother.

“I heard her call me a WIMP. Nobody calls me a WIMP,” I said the Judge.

“David, we will have to wait until the WIMP’S parents are dead then we can move on it,” Chris said it in a loud and clear voice.

“Chris, how are things with your lover and does John suspect anything yet,” David said to Chris.

“All I am going to tell you this. I work with him, and he is fantastic in bed. I wish I had met Tom before John. God I am wet just thing about him,” Chris told her brother.

“Be patient one day you too will be together for ever,” David said to Chris.

I let the tape run and all I heard was the door closing and distant voices of the both of them.

The tape was stooped.

“Your honour I rewound the tape and listen to it three more times. WIMP, she called me a f ing WIMP.

The pair of them were going to set me up with some prostitute so she could get a divorce and get half of my money. They wanted my parents dead. My head was spinning. Thinking what shall I do? I had to think. I sat there staring at my notes. Then Chris came knocking at the door.

“John, John are you ok the door is locked let me in John, John,” Chris called out.

I came out of my blank state of mind and open the door.

“John, are you ok my love? Chris said to me.

“Sorry I had a lot on my mind is dinner ready my love,” I said to Chris.

“Yes. Come on before it gets cold,” Chris said to me.

I washed up and sat down my head was spinning. I made small talk and told Chris my parents were in intensive care. And right after dinner I was going back to the hospital.

“I asked her to come with me,” I said.

“No,” she said I have got to catch up on things to do in the house. I was heading for the front door Chris was about to wave me off. I heard the telephone ringing. God it’s her mother again I said to myself. So, I drove off to the hospital.

I went straight to intensive care. They were not where I had last seen the pair of them. I asked where are they. The nurse sent for the doctor and went in a side room. The doctor was there in seconds.

That was when I found both my parents had passed away. They died in minutes of each other.

I had to get myself under control. I asked the doctor what was the cause of death. He told me some type of tropical bug. I kissed my mother on the forehead and the same to my father. Then I left the hospital. I was nearly home so I called in the local pub. I was drinking hard stuff I am not much of a drinker. By the end of that I passed out in the pub. A neighbour was in the pub got me home.

It was Tuesday morning I had a banging headache and I was throwing up. Chris had gone to six-hour work she would be home after two o’clock. That was when I was going to tell her my parents had passed away in their sleep.

I made a pot of coffee and headed to my office nursing my headache. The real world came flooding back to me. I had lost my parents the day before. Chris and her brother were plotting to steal my money. They also wanted my parents dead. And to collect money on their death. And most of all my wife was cheating on me with someone she worked with called Tom.

“Your honour that is what I found out what Chris and her brother was up to,” I told the Judge.

“Mrs Bates Is there anything you want to say before I pass judgment,” The Judge said.

Chris was crying her eyes out shaking her head saying, “NO.

“Divorce granted in favour of Mr. Bates. Mrs Bates to pay the court costs,” Down went the hammer.

I had to wait for the final letter I was at last divorce. Thank God the divorce moved so quickly mainly because there were no cases to be heard. I was in work the following day and went to my director’s office.

“Sir, can we have that long awaited interview with David Summers? I said.

“John, just a minute,” he said.

He picked up the internal phone and told his PA to ring David Summers and ask him to come in for an interview. For one in the afternoon. Then ring the company lawyer to attend the meeting do that right away and come back to me right away.

“John how do want to play this out,” he said.

“Sir In front of him a letter with his name on it. The letter will have the pages sticking out. With the words CONTRACT OF EMPLOYMENT sticking out. Shake his hand firmly that we’ll set him at ease. Give him time to the read it. You will introduce who in the interview room.
