Katie sat back up and looked at me.
“No, you weren’t. Are you really prepared to sit there and listen to all the awful things I did to you?”
“I don’t know Katie, but I’m willing to try.”
Katie again rested her head on my shoulder. I could hear her start to cry.
“I really fucked this up Greg. I fucked this up so much.”
“Hey, enough of that. I want you to give me one promise you can keep then, alright?
“What is it?”
“That we are going to be completely honest with ourselves from now on. If we go to see someone about this, we don’t hold anything back. Can you promise me that?”
“Alright, yes I can promise that. I’m just not sure you will still love me when we’re done.”
“Oh, I think I will, I might not like it, but I don’t think I get a choice.”
“When do you want to start this then?”
“Shani’s dad’s a marriage counselor, today Shani is getting a name off of him for someone good that will be able to help us. It was meant to be just for me, so I could work through why I kept fucking up my relationships because of you. But now we can do it together.”
“I’m sorry I fucked up your relationships. Actually, not really. But I am sorry.”
“I know, right now I’m not that sorry either. So let’s forget about that and just focus on us alright?”
“Deal.”
We walked back out into the lounge room still holding hands, Beth almost feinted when she saw us.
