Brie’s Babysitting Service: Sadie by Jay2Kay

Sorry for the long wait but here is Sadie’s tale! Encouraging comments and constructive criticism is always welcome! I hope you enjoy Sadie as much as I enjoyed writing her!

Sadie

Sadie arrived at her new assignment, glad to be done with her old one. The husband from her previous assignment had attempted one too many times to seduce her, and even had her pinned to the wall when his wife arrived home from work. Sadie had kicked her way free and ran from the house, shocked that his wife hadn’t called the cops on her. She drove straight to Brie’s office, knowing she’d be there, and told her the whole story. Brie told her to take a few days to decompress and gather herself and then to meet back in her office if and when she was ready to go back to work.

After a week she decided to meet with Brie again and take on a new assignment. She gave Beth a file for the Swansons: Matthew and Mary. They had an eighteen-year-old son who was a month into his senior year and two twin girls who were just eighteen months old. Matthew had been back at work for over a year but Mary was anxious to go back, but needed someone to take care of the girls while their son, Sean, was in school.

Mary answered the door and Sadie immediately heard the young girls crying in another room. “You must be Sadie,” she greeted her with a handshake.

“Yes, it’s nice to meet you, Mrs. Swanson,” she answered, stepping through the doorway as Mary stepped aside for her.

“Please, call me Mary, there’s no need to be so formal. Plus, it makes me feel old,” she chuckled.

“Yes, ma’am,” Sadie replied.

Mary rolled her eyes but not from annoyance and more from amusement. “Well, at least you’re polite,” she said and then shut the door and led her to the girls’ nursery, which was down the hallway to their right just a few feet from the front door. “All of the bedrooms are down here. The twins’ room is the first one here on the right, Sean’s is at the end on the right and then the master bedroom is directly across from there. The bathroom is for Sean and guests, Matt and I have our own. Obviously, there’s no real need to go into our room for anything, so if you need the bathroom, you can use that one; there is a half bath just off of the garage, across from the laundry room on the other side of the house,” Mary explained, giving her a brief tour of the house from where they stood at the beginning of the hallway. “We have one of the only single-story houses on the street; it was a selling point for me; I didn’t want to haul any heavy furniture up the stairs when we moved in,” she laughed and Sadie joined her.

“I don’t blame you,” Sadie agreed.

“Sean is already at school; he starts at seven-thirty and is usually home around three. Matt works long hours and doesn’t usually get home until about six. I start back tomorrow, so I’ll be here with you today, just to help you get a feel for the house and the girls’ routine. When I start tomorrow, though, I’ll be working eight to five like my husband, but I work much closer than he does,” she explained and Sadie took mental notes of all the information Mary laid on her very quickly. “You look so young; do you mind me asking how old you are?” Mary adds.

“I’m nineteen; I’ll be twenty in a few months. I’ve only been working for Brie for a few months,” Sadie told her.

“Wow, you’re really not much older than my son,” she replied and then nodded towards the twins’ room. When they entered, both girls were in their cribs, standing up and screaming their little, red faces off. Mary went to the one on the left so Sadie picked up the other on the right.

“What’s this one’s name?” Sadie asked as the girl quickly calmed down in her arms.

“That’s Jade and this is Ruby,” Mary said.

“Are there any specific details that helps you remember which is which?” Sadie asked.

“Actually, yes, Jade has a small birthmark on her earlobe,” she pointed out and Sadie inspected her to find that on her left ear there was, in fact, a dark brown spot on her earlobe. “And Ruby here has a few, very light, freckles on her cheeks,” she explained, stepping up closer with her daughter.

Both girls had brilliant, red hair and sharp green eyes that kept Sadie mesmerized. Their faces were a little less red now that they were out of their cribs and expecting to be fed.

“They’re beautiful,” Sadie complimented.

“Thank you,” Mary said. “I have some oatmeal ready for them in the kitchen,” she told her and Sadie followed her out to the small dining area where two, identical high-chairs were set up with pink bowls full of baby oatmeal on the white trays.

They talked as they fed the babies, getting to know each other. Mary asked what happened with her last assignment, so Sadie gave her a very watered-down version of the story, which was enough to appall her anyway.

“Oh my gosh, are you okay?” she asked and Sadie nodded.

“Mostly,” she said. “I mean, some extra-curricular activities tend to come along with this job, but not like that,” Sadie told her, assuming Brie had already explained the type of services they offered.

“Yes, Brie mentioned something like that. Thankfully, Matt and I are just fine in that department,” she said with a hint of a smug smile which Sadie found amusing.

“Then can I ask why you chose Brie’s services?” Sadie asked.

Mary thought for a moment. “I’m a little worried about my son,” she said. “I just fear he lacks a lot of confidence he needs to attract a girl,” she said. “Maybe not even attract, but to just approach one. I never see him talking to girls, and if he were gay, he’d have a lot of girl friends, right?” she asked

“Maybe, but not all gay guys are extroverted and flamboyant,” Sadie countered the stigma, having a lot of gay guy friends herself. “I mean, a lot of them can be, but I have a few gay friends who are just normal, quiet guys who are very introverted,” she explained.

“I guess that’s true,” Mary said with a sigh, giving Ruby another bite of her baby oatmeal. “Maybe he’s just a shy kid who needs help breaking out of his shell a little,” she offered.

“How do I fit into that?” Sadie asked, mostly just to figure out what Mary was looking for, but a little annoyed with her view of gay men still.

“Matt has no idea about your other services; he thinks you’re literally just a babysitting service, so this has to stay between you and me,” she said.

“Of course, the only thing I’m restricted from doing is sleeping with either you or your husband behind the other’s back,” Sadie told her.

“And I already mentioned that Matt and I don’t need any help in that department,” Mary insisted and Sadie nodded to show she understood. “But, if there is anything you can do to boost Sean’s confidence, you are free to do so. I almost don’t care if you let him bang you to do it, though I hope it won’t necessarily go that far,” she said.

“Well, I don’t know if it needs to go that far, but then again, your son is really cute,” she said with a giggle, remembering his photo from their file.

Mary grinned. “Right? Just help him realize how great of a guy he really is and help him get a girlfriend or something,” Mary said, and her request actually surprised Sadie.
